Sonic Alchemy brings together four multidisciplinary artists who harness the power of algorithms and interactive technologies to craft compelling visual soundscapes: Alida Sun, Boreta, Joëlle Snaith and Elias Jarzombek.
A new artist’s work is revealed each week, alongside accompanying critical essays by prominent programmers and professors, in order to drive critical conversation around generative music and deepen our understanding of what is possible when sound, technology and visual art coalesce.
Today we are pleased to present Boreta’s genesis piece, the precursor to his highly-anticipated release on Art Blocks.
“Releasing my first solo audiovisual piece is thrilling - it's deeply personal because music is my first love. To fully take charge of the visual aspect along with the sound was a new, enlightening experience. It's a different way of playing with the rhythms found in nature.”
Boreta is a Los Angeles based musician and artist. In 2022 his project Superposition earned a Grammy nomination and his Art Blocks release Rituals received the esteemed Lumen Prize. He is also a member of The Glitch Mob, an influential electronic group.
‘Unique Together: On Generative Music and Worldbuilding’
Tero Parviainen, a musical software developer who has worked closely with Boreta, considers generative sound in relation to virtual worldbuilding, offering a fresh perspective on how to experience and explore the cutting-edge of computer music.
"An encounter with a generative music system can feel like being in an immersive game. The composer designs a musical world for you to explore. Your experience within it is completely unique, yet you can find commonalities and connections with other people who went there.”
